As the onsite event technology partner for the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center in Cleveland, PSAV® Presentation Services technicians ensured that key speakers and stranded attendees could still participate in the annual event
CLEVELAND — January 8, 2013 — When Superstorm Sandy huffed and puffed on October 28, she did a lot of damage to Northeast Ohio, but she didn’t have gusto to dampen the spirits of those producing a national medical summit in Cleveland October 29 to 31 at the InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center. Thanks to the herculean efforts of PSAV® Presentation Services, 10 speakers maintained an active role from their home computers via video conferencing, and a web stream was established to enable those who registered, but were stranded, to attend remotely.
PSAV is the leading supplier of audiovisual services and event technologies to hotels, associations, producers and meeting planners worldwide. The company has been serving as the onsite event technology partner for the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center for nearly a decade.
“As a result of this storm, nearly 180,000 customers in Northeast Ohio were without power over the course of this event, ” said PSAV Area Director Robert Cupp. “Many of those traveling had no way to get here, including 12 key presenters. We brainstormed with PSAV Manager of Virtual Events Brian Swann in Long Beach and came up with a video conferencing plan to connect these speakers to their audiences.
“Within an hour, Brian was on a red-eye, flying cross country from Long Beach to Cleveland, ” Cupp said. “By 8:00 a.m., we were together, setting up the network for the first afternoon kickoff meeting. PSAV used four laptops to share videos with presenters who could not attend, and videostreamed the live event to those attendees who could not travel. The end result was an extremely well-orchestrated event. ”
Throughout the conference, the PSAV team worked closely with the event planner’s video and audio engineer and Zenith Systems’ technician to ensure the systems’ integrity was not compromised due to any possible power outages.
“We are extremely proud of Brian Swann, our onsite event technology team in Cleveland, Dale Kiser and Pete Maschari, sales manager Rachael Futo, event technology specialists Sam Intihar, Will Canyon, Clarence Barns, Tim Owens and 10 other PSAV employees who were able to execute a successful conference in Cleveland, ” said PSAV Chief Operating Officer Sky Cunningham. “This type of dedication is what makes PSAV stand out from the rest. “
