ROSEMONT, Ill. – Recently, PSAV’s very own CEO Mike McIlwain visited the InterContinental Chicago O’Hare and worked as an Event Technology Specialist for the day in support of Discover Card’s annual sales conference and award ceremony.
Area Director Ryan McCrum served as McIlwain’s boss and tasked him with rounding up a collection of gear to move from the office to the main ballroom as his first assignment.
Throughout the day, McIlwain participated in labor-intensive work, including bolting together truss, running wire all through the ballroom and setting up the lighting for the event. In addition, he learned the many angles of communication that had to take place among the PSAV team, the hotel staff and the client to ensure a seamless event.
“Working with Mike was a great experience. He took instructions and was eager to get his hands on anything he could. He wanted to experience as many aspects of audio, video, lighting, and rigging, as he was able to,” said McCrum. “He did come dressed per location standards; however, he was not clean-shaven and was on his phone a little more than we would have liked. We cut him some slack since it was his first day.”
Of the experience, McIlwain said, “It was awesome and I’m really glad I did it. I came away with a new appreciation for a lot of different aspects of the business and I really appreciate the PSAV team at the hotel for welcoming me with open arms. I plan to do this more often, so you’ll never know when I might show up – in a good way.”
